What we do

Strengthening human and institutional capacity of community-based organizations to become effective development partners within their local areas is essential. Through diverse organizational capacity assessment tools, GOSC identifies grassroots partners’ capacity needs and provides customized technical and operational support to expand our partners’ local impact. Sustainable growth of community-based organisations is dependent on their voluntary adherence to highest (self-applied) ethical standards and professionalism when carrying out their duties. Therefore, to support our primary development partners’ long-term growth, GOSC provides technical support on registration and compliance with administrative and legal requirements for effective institutional operations and mandate delivery.

Networking and Policy Influence

GOSC enables local and national level networking and learning processes for grassroots organizations to advance their institutions’ internal efficiency, better access to resources and collective voices. As learning institutions, grassroots organizations continuously need opportunities to create synergies and collaborate with institutions and stakeholders that can promote their work.

Evaluation Research and Documentation

GOSC provides technical support and oversight in evaluation research and documentation to community-based organizations, most of whom cannot afford to have a dedicated Monitoring and Evaluation staff. We strengthen grassroots institutions’ evaluation capacities to advance programming knowledge and informed decision making by development partners and stakeholders.

Resource Mobilization and Funds Management

We mobilize resources and enable funding to be accessible to community-based organizations. GOSC recognizes that most grassroots organizations have difficulties in mobilizing resources that match their intended objectives, hence affecting projects implementation process, outcomes, and impact.

As learning institutions, grassroots organizations continuously need opportunities to create synergies and collaborate with institutions and stakeholders that can promote their work.

Social Inclusion and Mainstreaming

Impactful development activities must be socially inclusive and should mainstream cross-cutting development needs such as climate change, mental health and wellness, covid-19 prevention response, constitutional rights awareness, and emergency response. In line with the Leaving No One Behind agenda, GOSC supports local partners to consciously become gender and language sensitive, include women, youths, people with disabilities and minority groups in their programming.

Citizen Governance and Devolution

Awareness raising and empowering communities to claim their fundamental socio-economic rights for the achievement of social and economic justice and communal solidarity. Creating a dialogue between communities and key stakeholders for the realization of these rights. Through our programs, we support grassroots organizations representing the most vulnerable groups including women, youth, and people with disabilities, and amplify their voices on issues of inclusive participation, natural resource ownership and management, conflict, climate change, and the right to basic services for all.
